The Inspiration
In Greek and Roman mythology Castor and Pollux were twin brothers, together known as Dioscūrī. In Latin the twins are also known as the Gemini. They are consistently associated with horses in art and literature and are widely depicted as helmeted horsemen carrying spears. Castor was the mortal son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, while Pollux was the divine son of Zeus. When Castor was killed, Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together, and they were transformed into the constellation Gemini.
The Story
Dioscuri™ (die-ah-skew-ree) is a passion project for owner Estevan Gonzalez. Having been born in the month of June, it felt natural for Estevan to embrace the name Gemini and to create a concept brand based on the idea of dualism; the best of both worlds. In the sneaker community, followers currently have two ways to access a release: first, at brick and mortar locations on brand release dates and second, in after-market locations such as consignment stores or online. Dioscuri was created to mend the two and bring everything under one roof. The retail side of the brand will be given the name of Pollux and the consignment side will be titled Castor. Conceptualizing Dioscuri as an extension of himself, Estevan seeks to shift the current landscape of sneakers, while operating under a personal philosophy of giving the consumer more than what they pay for.
